What Is a Crease Dent?
A crease is a long dent shaped like a line, not a round dimple. It happens when something slides along the car instead of hitting it straight on. A shopping cart dragging down the side. A bike handle scraping a door. A post you didn't see while backing out.
Creases can be short or long, soft or sharp. A soft crease looks like a shallow valley in the panel. A sharp crease has a tight fold at the bottom, where the metal got pinched.
Sometimes a crease runs across a body line, the sharp styling line that runs along a door or fender. That line has to come back straight and crisp, or the repair will show. Body lines take extra time and a careful eye.
Can Paintless Dent Repair Fix a Crease?
Many creases can be fixed with PDR. It comes down to three things:
- How sharp the crease is. Soft creases usually come out very well. A very tight fold is harder.
- Whether the metal is stretched. A hard hit can stretch the metal. Stretched metal may not go back perfectly.
- Whether the paint is cracked. If the paint is cracked or chipped in the crease, PDR alone may not be the right fix.
When you text a photo, I'll look at all three and give you a straight answer. If I think a crease will come out great, I'll say so. If I think it will be much better but not perfect, I'll say that too. And if it needs a body shop, you'll hear it before any work starts.
How Dent Crease Repair Works
Looking for dent crease repair in Parker? Here's what the work looks like.
A crease takes more steps than a round ding. The metal along the crease is pushed down, and the metal on each side is often pushed up a little. Both have to be fixed.
- Read the crease under a PDR light. The light shows the low line, plus the high ridges along its sides.
- Work from the ends in. The shallow ends of the crease come up first. That takes stress off the deepest part.
- Push the low spots, tap down the highs. Many small pushes from behind bring the metal up. High spots get tapped down so the panel stays flat.
- Glue pull where needed. If there's a brace or double wall behind the crease, I can pull from the front with glue tabs instead.
- Check the reflection. The repair is done when the lines in the light run straight across the panel.
A big or sharp crease takes longer than a ding. You'll get a time estimate with your quote.
What a Crease Repair Costs
Every crease is different, so the price depends on:
- How long and how deep the crease is.
- How sharp it is, and whether the metal is stretched.
- Where it sits, like on a body line or near an edge.
- Whether the panel is steel or aluminum.
- How easy it is to reach from behind.

Will Insurance Pay for Crease Repair?
It depends on your policy and your adjuster. I work with insurance adjusters on hail claims. For a single crease, many people pay out of pocket, since the repair can cost less than their deductible. The Downsides of PDR (Honest Answer)
PDR is a great fix when it fits, but it doesn't fit every dent. Here are the honest limits:
- Not every dent qualifies. Cracked paint, torn metal or badly stretched metal can rule it out.
- Some edges are hard to work. A crease that runs onto the folded edge of a door or hood may not come back perfectly.
- Very sharp creases may not be 100%. Some can be made much better, but not flawless.
- Earlier repairs can get in the way. If someone filled or painted over the dent, PDR may not work.
If any of these apply to your crease, I'll tell you up front. Then the panel may need conventional body work instead.
Fender Dent Repair
Fenders take creases from car doors, carts, and bumps while parking. The front fenders curve, and many have a body line running across them, so the shape has to come back just right.
Fender dent repair is done without repainting or blending paint into the next panel. Some fenders are easy to reach from behind. Others have liners or braces in the way, so I may remove a liner or glue pull. Text a photo for a free quote.
Quarter Panel Dent Repair
The rear quarter panel is the part of the car around the back wheel. It's a common spot for cart dents and creases, since it sits right at cart height.
A quarter panel is welded to the car, so it can't just be swapped out like a door. That makes paintless repair a good fit when the paint is fine. Access can be tight, so it may mean working through the trunk or the inside panel, or glue pulling. Text a photo for a free quote.
Trunk and Liftgate Dent Repair
Trunk lids and liftgates get dents from loading bags, bikes, coolers and gear, and from other cars backing up too close. Many liftgates are aluminum, and some have double walls inside.
Trunk and liftgate dent repair is done without repainting. I work from behind where I can, and glue pull where there's no room. Text a photo of the dent for a free quote.
Bigger Dents and Glue Pulls
Not every dent is a crease. Large dents can often be fixed with PDR too, as long as the paint isn't cracked and the metal isn't torn. Glue pull dent repair lifts dents from the outside where there's no way in from behind, like roof rails and double-walled panels. Send a photo, and I'll tell you if yours is a good fit.
